Justin Fields will go down as one of the biggest Steelers QB blunders in recent memory, as the dual-threat QB left the Steel City for the Jets this past offseason — and New York proved in the draft how much they value him.
Despite the Steelers treating him and Russell Wilson as short-term stopgap options at QB, the Jets clearly see Fields as the future of their offense.
Fields had the keys to the Steelers’ kingdom ripped away from him in favor of Wilson — despite an impressive 4-2 start to the 2024 season — while the Jets took the exact opposite approach and refused to draft a single 2025 QB prospect, early or late, to compete with him in 2025. Not only that, but out of their first four picks in the draft, three went toward offense — focusing on pass protection and more weapons for Fields to succeed with.
The Steelers had the perfect opportunity to sign Fields to a better deal than his two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets, but are instead stuck begging a 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers not to retire — while Pittsburgh is left without any long-term direction at the QB position.
