2025 NFL draft: Tennessee Titans also cancel private workout with Travis Hunter

On Friday, the Tennessee Titans canceled the April 9 private workout that had previously been scheduled with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The move prompted many to speculate that the Titans had decided who they would select with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

On Saturday, Todd McShay of ESPN reported that the Titans had also canceled a workout with Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. This further solidifies that Tennessee has decided on Miami quarterback Cam Ward with that pick in the minds of many.

Of course, this is all speculation by the media. The Titans have done extensive work on Sanders throughout the pre-draft process, and the same can be said about Hunter, who has been with Sanders throughout their journey.

Heading into the offseason, most experts and scouts widely considered Hunter the top prospect, and nothing has happened to change that. While there are some questions about his fit in the NFL, he has a rare combination of skills that could allow him to be successful at different positions on both sides of the ball.

The Titans’ trip to Boulder was likely more for Hunter than Sanders. Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, offensive coordinator Skip Holz, and receivers coach Tyke Tolbert made the trip, but neither head coach Brian Callahan nor quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree did.

So far, Tennessee has been consistent and extremely calculated in its approach to this draft. In this case, the cancellation of this workout almost appears to go against that approach. It could mean everything, or it could mean nothing. Everyone will find out on April 24 when the commissioner walks up to the podium.
