Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo was pulled from Sunday’s game against the Miami Marlins with what was later announced as right shoulder discomfort.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Nimmo, who homered earlier in the game, fouled back the first pitch of his at-bat against Andrew Nardi and immediately appeared to be in some distress.
Nimmo was checked out by the training staff and initially stayed in the game to finish out the at-bat. But after striking out, he was replaced by Jeff McNeil in left field in the top of the eighth inning.
After the game, manager Carlos Mendoza said that Nimmo was “pretty sore,” and will undergo an MRI on Monday.
Per Mendoza, Nimmo initially felt something after making a diving catch in the top of the seventh inning, a play that kept the game tied at the time.
“He said he felt something after the diving play, and then when he took that swing, obviously, he was like ‘I’m getting better,’ but then he struck out and I said ‘It’s the throwing shoulder, you’ve got to go in.” I was just told that he’s going to get an MRI tomorrow.
Mendoza admitted that there is concern any time a player has to go for an MRI, but the Mets obviously won’t know the extent of the injury until they get the results.
