Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is expected to speak in Cincinnati about the nearly $50,000 raised online for Rodney Hinton Jr., the man accused of killing a sheriff’s deputy.
Yost and an attorney representing the family of Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson will speak at the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office building in Blue Ash, according to Steve Irwin, a spokesman from Yost’s office. Law enforcement officials will also be in attendance.
The press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. on May 20, during which officials will “denounce online fundraising for the man charged in Henderson’s murder,” a news release states.

Hinton is accused of killing Henderson the day after a Cincinnati police officer shot and killed Hinton’s son while investigating a vehicle theft. Henderson was working a traffic detail during a University of Cincinnati graduation ceremony when he was killed.
The deputy, who retired after 33 years but continued working special details, was not involved in the fatal shooting of Hinton’s son, 18-year-old Ryan Hinton.
In the weeks since Hinton’s arrest on May 2, he has gained a following online and efforts have raised nearly $50,000 for his legal defense.
Police groups successfully pressured GoFundMe, a popular online fundraising platform, to remove fundraisers launched on Hinton’s behalf. However, another platform has allowed a fundraiser launched by someone who says they are Hinton’s sister to continue.
This story will be updated once the press conference begins at 1 p.m.
