Barnacle wall sconce by Articolo

Dezeen Showroom: Australian lighting company Articolo has collaborated with artist Emma Davies to produce the Barnacle wall sconce, which is covered in delicate shell-like forms handmade from reclaimed materials.

The Barnacle wall light is the first product in Articolo’s Artist Series and draws on Davies’ practice of transforming everyday materials.

Articolo founder and creative director Nicci Kavals worked with Davies to create the Barnacle sconce, which combines a simple square brass or bronze base with an organic-looking adornment.

The barnacles are made from reclaimed bird netting and baling twine. Davies heats the materials to a malleable state and then presses them with a smooth rock by hand to obtain the final result.

We’re delighted to deepen our connection to the arts by collaborating directly with local and international artists, fusing their unique practices with the sophisticated engineering and elevated design that Articolo Studios is known for,” said Kavals.

The barnacles on each wall sconce have a hand-painted finish by Davies in a choice of colours, ranging from moody dark hues to bright white.
