Bird's-Eye View Captures Extent of Flooding in Canterbury

A helicopter crew called in to transport a resident on New Zealand’s South Island captured bird’s-eye footage which revealed the extent of flooding in Canterbury.

This video, posted to Facebook by GCH Aviation and filmed by one of its paramedics onboard, shows inundated roads and fields in Akaroa.

“As the rain falls today in the Canterbury region, closing roads. Our air rescue helicopter team was called to Akaroa to safely transport a patient to Christchurch Hospital,” the source wrote.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) on Thursday urged locals to avoid travelling on the roads due to the wet weather.

In a weather update on Friday, the MetService said conditions had eased in Canterbury overnight. Credit: GCH Aviation via Storyful
