A Wichita County grand jury has indicted a former church camp worker on a charge of indecency with a child.
The panel indicted Nathan Lee McDonald of Wichita Falls on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
McDonald, 44, was free Monday from the Wichita County Jail on a $100,000 bail, according to online jail records.
Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until convicted beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The indictment alleges McDonald engaged in sexual contact with a child younger than 17.
According to affidavits filed in the case, McDonald was the assistant director of Chaparral Baptist Assembly Camp in Iowa Park when he was jailed on charges of indecency with a child through sexual contact.
A probable cause affidavit alleged a girl made an outcry that she had been fondled over her clothing when she was 16 years old and working at the camp in the summer of 2023. The affidavit alleged that another staff member noticed “flirtatious behavior” between McDonald and the girl.
A monitored phone call revealed McDonald making apologies to the girl and saying, “I know you trusted me and I betrayed that trust,” according to allegations in the affidavit.
McDonald was arrested for the charge on Feb. 21. He posted $100,000 bail and was released the following day.
In Texas, indecency with a child through sexual contact is a second-degree felony, and a conviction can carry a prison sentence up to 20 years.
