The beautiful District of Muskoka, is a regional municipality in Central Ontario, Canada, famous for its sprawling lakeside landscapes (with 1,600 lakes) and its tight-knit hockey community. The historic town of Bracebridge, known for being built around a waterfall on the Muskoka River, is located two hours north of Toronto and three hours from Montour’s home in Ohsweken, a village on the Six Nations of the Grand River reserve. Bracebridge is now excited to be recognized for its new state-of-the-art community centre, which includes a brand-new ice rink. The opening of the rink coincided with training camp for the Muskoka Hockey League. The league’s under-20 youth groups had the honor of being the first to hit the ice for the inaugural skate. The event, which was free to the public, included a scrimmage between invited guests of the NHL.
