A former Georgia Bulldog has quickly agreed to his new rookie contract. Former Georgia linebacker Smael Mondon signed a four-year, $4.595 million deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Mondon is the first rookie from the entire 2025 NFL draft class to sign his contract.
The Eagles selected Mondon with the No. 161 pick in the draft. Mondon is one of eight Georgia Bulldogs on the Philadelphia Eagles. He’ll be joining a linebacker room that includes Nakobe Dean, Nolan Smith Jr., and Azeez Ojulari, who are all former Bulldogs.
Mondon was the No. 21 recruit in the nation when he committed to Georgia in 2021. With Georgia, he established himself as one of the most secure tacklers in the league. He played for both national championship teams, starting for the Bulldogs when they won it in 2022. Against TCU in the national championship, he earned five tackles and a tackle for loss.
Overall, Mondon racked up 212 tackles, 18 TFLs, and eight sacks in his Georgia career. Mondon’s great pursuit (shown at the NFL combine) and tackling skills earned him the selection by the Eagles. He will look to make the final roster and potentially a starter or a development project behind Ojulari, Dean, and Smith Jr.
