Giants announcer Jon Miller repeatedly called Athletics an 'Oakland' team

San Francisco Giants radio announcer Jon Miller has been calling MLB games for decades, with most of that time coming in the Bay Area. On this note alone, you’ll forgive the legendary commentator if it’s a challenging hurdle for him to consistently refer to the Athletics as anything but an iconic Oakland sports team.

As the Athletics, their owner John Fisher, and MLB embarrass themselves with an unnecessary Sacramento-Las Vegas stadium situation that robs Oakland fans of a beloved pillar of their community, it’s always worth seeing how some of baseball’s biggest voices hold onto what’s right, regardless of whether it’s intentional. That might as well be a guiding compass for everyone else.

We have seen a classic example of this as the Giants have hosted the Athletics this weekend.

Whether he means to make a point or not with his announcing, Miller has kept referring to the Athletics as “Oakland.” And not in some one-off instances that you could wave off with a hand, either.

It’s happened repeatedly:

With every public moment like this, the Athletics, Fisher, and MLB should feel even more uncomfortable about what they’re doing to the city of Oakland.
