HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Hampton man who has autism and unilateral blindness said he is struggling to land a job and make ends meet.
Jared White, 32, admits he has had difficulty landing a job, but he continues to persist in the effort.
“A lot of jobs kind of fell through or just went out of business,” he said.
White depends on the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board and the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services in his time of need. He also receives assistance from the use of food stamps and Medicaid.
“It’s just inflation,” he said. “All this stuff has gotten out of control.”
White is often in contact with social service agencies for heating assistance, too.
“Getting heating assistance is very important,” he said.
White reached out to 10 On Your Side to shed light on his situation.
“It’s sad to say, but in order to get anything to improve in this country, it seems like everything needs to be [a news] article about all the stuff that’s going on,” he said.
Considering his circumstances, White is optimistic for his next step.
“Luckily, I’m about to get vocational training, thankfully, so I can start going back to school,” he said.
