Kansas City Chiefs RB Brashard Smith on Isiah Pacheco comparisons: 'Cool hearing that'

During his virtual introductory press conference on Saturday, Kansas City Chiefs seventh-round pick Brashard Smith discussed his appreciation for the team’s offense and recent comparisons to a current player on the team.

“I feel like my skillset fits perfectly with the offense,” said Smith. “They’re (Chiefs) already dynamic, and I feel like I’m a dynamic player as well. I feel like I’m going to bring a lot of juice to the offense and special teams. Anytime I’m on the field, I’m going to bring some juice.”

Smith spent the first three seasons of his college career at the University of Miami. He finished with 1,946 all-purpose yards in his three seasons with the Hurricanes. The gutsy running style has earned comparisons to Chiefs starting running back Isiah Pacheco, who was also a seventh-round draft selection. “I heard Isiah Pacheco all season. It was kind of cool hearing that because he’s a great (running) back, and he does make a lot of plays for you guys (Chiefs),” said Smith. “It felt good with him (Rhett Lashlee) saying that.”

Last season, Smith earned Third-team Associated Press All-American All-Purpose and First-team All-ACC honors with SMU. He led the team with 1,332 rushing yards on 235 carries and 14 rushing touchdowns, ranking fourth in the FBS with 1,977 all-purpose yards. He played in all 14 games with 10 starts.
