Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has recorded a personal message reflecting on her challenging past year, and asking the public to focus on “the things that connect us all.”

The Sun newspaper reports that Kate – who has been seen infrequently in public throughout 2024, following her announcement earlier this year that she was undergoing chemotherapy medical treatment – has recorded the message as part of the annual Christmas carol service which she hosts, and will be televised in the UK on Christmas Eve.

In her message at the beginning of the event, she says: “Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year, it is a time for presents, tinsel and mince pies, but it’s also a time to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all.”

And she adds: “It is love which is the greatest gift we can receive, not just at Christmas, but every day of our lives.”

The concert was filmed at Westminster Abbey, the central London church that hosted Kate’s wedding to Prince William in 2011, Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997 and Queen Elizabeth’s funeral service in 2022. Kate attended the carol service with her husband Prince William and their three children. The royal couple did not make the Royals’ annual Christmas lunch for the wider family and palace stuff earlier this week, although they are expected to accompany King Charles and Queen Camilla to church on Christmas morning, as is traditional.

In March, Kate announced she would be withdrawing from public events to receive her medical treatment. In September, she posted a family video sharing that she was cancer-free.
