A man faces charges in connection to a shooting that left a boy seriously injured May 6 in Valley Station, Louisville Metro Police officials said.
At about 6 p.m., officers responders to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 13000 block of Bold Forbes Boulevard, LMPD spokesperson Matthew Sanders said. Upon arrival, officers found a boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The boy was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
At 10:40 p.m., officers arrested 18-year-old Jamal Sheikh in connection to the shooting, according to an arrest citation. He faces charges of first degree assault and tampering with physical evidence. Police used a video recording obtained from the apartment complex to identify a vehicle at the scene. Sheikh was inside the vehicle when it was located by LMPD detectives.
Sheikh was taken into custody without incident in the 1400 block of Earl Avenue, LMPD spokesperson John Bradley said. He was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections May 7, jail records show.
Sheikh has an arraignment hearing scheduled for May 8 at 9 a.m., according to court records.
LMPD’s Homicide Unit is leading an investigation into the shooting due to the severity of the boy’s injury, Sanders said.
