Rapides Sheriff's Office: Argument leads to shooting, death of Lecompte man


A Lecompte man is in jail after an argument escalated to a shooting, killing another man, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Arcenio Ramon Bowie, 35, was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He remains in custody with bail set at $1.5 million.

The Lecompte Police Department responded to a shooting call about 1 a.m. on Thursday, finding a victim who was not responsive. He was identified as James Barfield, 34, also of Lecompte.

He died at the scene, reads the news release.

Sheriff’s detectives and crime scene personnel were called to the scene. Detectives found that the two men had been arguing “when allegedly Bowie brandished a firearm and began firing multiple shots at Barfield, striking him and causing fatal injuries.”

Bowie also allegedly fired at witnesses before leaving, reads the release.

Warrants were issued for Bowie, and he turned himself in about two hours later. An investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Shannon Hanks at (318) 473-6727 or the main office at (318) 473-6700.
