Sharks' Macklin Celebrini Joins Elite Company With 28th Point Of Season

When San Jose Sharks rookie Macklin Celebrini scored his 13th goal of the season in the third period against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, he joined some impressive company.

Celebrini is up to 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists) and owns sole possession of the league lead in goals by a rookie in the NHL this season.

But he also became just the third 18-year-old in the last 40 years to have 28 or more points in the first 30 games of his NHL career. Pittsburgh Penguins center and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby (31 in 2005-06) and Edmonton Oilers Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (32 in 2011-12) are the only players to achieve that accomplishment in that timeframe.

Celebrini is now 10th all-time in most points by an 18-year-old player in their first 30 career games.

San Jose defeated New Jersey 3-2 for their second straight win after losing the previous eight behind Cody Ceci’s goal with 25 seconds left in the third period.
