Star Trek came to New York Comic Con (NYCC) prepared this weekend. In addition to announcing that Starfleet Academy has already been greenlit for a second season (and that we’ll see Tatiana Maslany guest star in the first), we got some goodies from Strange New Worlds, Section 31, and Lower Decks.
On the Strange New Worlds front, we got a three-minute clip from the first episode of Season Three, where the Enterprise crew are in a battle with the Gorn, who have captured Starfleet members on board their vessel. The footage shows Pike (Anson Mount), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Spock (Ethan Peck), and Number One (Rebecca Romijn) excelling in the face of insurmountable odds, even when they ultimately have to flee to survive and rescue their captured people later.
We also found out that Rhys Darby (Rhys Darby!), who you might know from Our Flag Means Death, will also be a guest star in one of Strange New Worlds’ upcoming episodes.
NYCC gave us another Lower Decks clip, which has the Cerritos getting hit with an interdimensional time rift where Mariner is the captain of the ship rather than a junior officer. Things are going to get sticky for the crew!
And the movie Section 31 also got an update, specifically when we’ll be able to watch it. During the con, we found out that the feature starring Michelle Yeoh will premiere on Paramount+ on January 24, 2025.
Before Section 31, however, we’ll be able to watch Lower Decks in mere days—the first two episodes drop on the streamer on October 24, 2024. No news yet on when Season Three of Strange New Worlds will make its way to our eyeballs, though we will see it sometime next year.
