The 2025 NFL draft is rapidly approaching, and the Dallas Cowboys are finishing up their prep as the big event draws closer. They’re a team that routinely selects players from their top 30 visits, and the Cowboys’ latest meeting could be the most telling one yet.
Matthew Golden was the latest WR to visit the Cowboys as the team does their homework on possibly drafting a WR to pair with All-Pro CeeDee Lamb. Golden joins some of the other top wideouts with whom the team has met, including Tetairoa McMillan, Emeka Egbuka and Luther Burden.
This isn’t surprising, one of the Cowboys’ biggest needs is at WR and the only top option they hadn’t met with yet was Golden. It’s an organization that’s been harping on getting faster and more explosive on offense, which are things the former Texas WR provides.
Golden’s 4.29 40-yard dash time was the best at the combine for a WR and he averaged 17 yards per reception last season, good for being inside the top 10 in the nation for receivers with at least 50 catches. He might not look like he plays to that elite speed, but Golden’s burst, ability to create separation, and body control make him one of the best playmaking WRs in the draft.
The Cowboys are doing their diligence at WR, and Golden might be the best fit for what the offense needs. When the team is on the clock with the 12th pick overall, they could have a decision to make at WR. The organization had already met with the other top options at WR, Golden was the last of the possible first-round candidates to take a visit to Dallas.
Golden has been a fast riser in the pre-draft process and he’s in competition to be the first WR selected. The Cowboys are one of the teams who have been linked to Golden recently, and their interest in him appears legitimate.
If it wasn’t obvious before, the message is clear, the Cowboys want another quality WR to pair with Lamb to elevate the offense. Matthew Golden could be the answer, and the team got a closer look to help make that determination.
